Description

Staysails are inner headsails set on an inner forestay, commonly used on offshore cruising yachts. Compact and versatile, they are ideal for balance, control, and heavy-weather sailing.

Positioned between the mast and the primary headsail, staysails help maintain drive when reducing sail area in strong winds. When paired with a Yankee or reefed mainsail, they offer a balanced and manageable sail plan.

Their smaller size and central location make staysails easier to handle and tack. They are particularly effective to maintain control in rough conditions when larger sails have been removed or furled away.
